Let's talk about cars

Re: Let's talk about cars
servicing every 5k is ridiculous for something with so little refinement. my previous audi only needed servicing every 20K-ish but of course I probably paid 4 times as much for the pleasure..

Re: Let's talk about cars
I had a breeze block Pajero Mk 1 V6 in Oman, and the only time I let the dealer service it they mislayed the oil filler cap on the engine and it overheated and was never the same again. On the other hand I did a mega millage and had the company workshop change the oil and filters and made Al Zubair, the Omani Mitsubishi dealer look like amateurs. Down side was the gearboxes on early V6 Paj's went pear shape after 200,000 KMs and they were a bit sloppy in the suspension front after that milage. There again, I've had 12 Range Rovers and they couldn't stand up to the Pajero's, and Discoverys were even worse, but the sound of a Rover V8 was better than a Mitsubishi V6 and a Toyota straight 6....

Anyone have anything to say about the Beemer X6? I know the styling is a bit Marmite, but used X6 vs New Charger?
Many colleagues suggest I should stay well away from used cars, but.................I want an X6!

Bahtatgirl has half an X6, and in fact its rather good (seats aside). I can well extrapolate that an X6 would be the dog's danglies.

Team BMW here. Got a 25 year old 3 series when I returned to UK and it drove so well I bought a new one. Bit common but for a reason

Re: Let's talk about cars
The missus drove an X6 in the UK for a couple of years, a 3.5d M-sport. Really liked it, very sure footed in the winter. Now in a 5-series 330d GT M-Sport, which she also likes, but it doesn't have the x-drive 4WD. There was a launch of a new model X6 late last year, but there's a long lead time if you want one to your own spec (6 months in the UK), so order now for Christmas You can now spec the x-drive system on most of the BMW range, which I think is a must have.

do you still have to have a paving slab in the boot. We loved out 325i in the early 90s.

Re: Let's talk about cars
I'm also looking at buying an X6.
I have been looking at used ones; 08 or 09 year for about QAR 85,000.00.
Trying to find a private seller as opposed to a garage where there is no service history or in-fact any information regarding the car, its as if they just found it and are selling it!!
I'm just worried that in a year or two if I come to sell it will I still get a decent price back and if it will sell on. I know a few people here who have been stuck with cars for 3 months trying to sell.

Re: Let's talk about cars
Speaking of IrishManc's question about being stuck with cars,
I've narrowed down the options to either a brand new Fortuner which will come with servicing every 10k. Prices around 110k. Monthly payments will probably be around 2500.
Or
A two year old Jetta. Volkswagen is offering exellent deals on older Jettas. Still get a few years' warranty. Prices up to 60k. Can pay in cash, or if I wanted to take out a loan, put 50% down and have monthly payments around 1K AED. And I rather like the look and design of the Jettas. But are they easy to sell on when the time comes? Will I regret not having a 4x4 in this country?

What about a Nissan X-trail, starting from QAR 79k ? Or a Nissan Altima starting from QAR 77k ? You might get a decent discount if you wait until Ramadan.
Me, I rent a Nissan Sunny Classic, which I treat like a 4x4

In reality there is no such thing as being stuck with a car! It just means that you want to sell for a price nobody in the market is willing to pay. If you want to know what an overpriced car looks like take a quick peak at 80% of the cars listed privately on dubizzle.
