In my experience the most racism/ rudeness comes from Asians to each other, especially the women that cannot say yes but insist on saying yar, usually very loudly.
UAE is a very eclectic mix of nationalities and that is one thing that I actually enjoy about being here, and I am sure that you will enjoy your time here, most people, which has been said in previous posts, are here for one thing, the money and if you can have a bit of enjoyment in life then that is a bonus........we could all be in far worse places such as the Magic Kingdom!!!

Really gets my dander up when people try to circumvent queues (or lines as they say here), unfortunately or fortunately, depends how you look at it, but I have to say something....which usually prompts everyone else to pipe up as well with the miscreant heading off tail between legs.

Let's be fair racism is just as strong, or stronger, in most Asian countries than it is in the ME. Racism is endemic in India.

But a small minority of the country's population, so could hardly be realistic as "Indian style" using them for general 'queue control' Post 23
(Although I have seen occasional Sikh drivers in Mumbai exercising vigorous traffic control with the flat of the hand).

"Pigs" ????The British in India was a complex situation, different in different areas of the vast country. The British were ruled by their own government and seniors 'on the ground'. Individuals could not always behave as they wished.
There was apartheid but not complete, mutual respect existed between those in same jobs etc.
(All knew though, that the basic aim of the British Government was to loot the wealth of India why else were they there?????}
Many British stayed on after independence some with open some with prejudiced attitudes.
The caste system was introduced 1000s of years ago, it was a naming according to jobs system, as in Smith/thatcher/ etc. There was no system of hygiene then, so those who's job it was to clear excreta were termed 'untouchable' in order to prevent spread of infection.
Of course in modern times this has no place and has become a form of 'classism' (they are all the same race!!!!). Names indicate family origins
Caste-ism is against the law in India as are other hate crimes. Of course people are people and there are those who have prejudices. Particularly it happens in remote villages.
It can work both ways I know someone who's son fell in love with a girl at college, her parents objected as the boy was of 'higher' origins. It is a matter of being with your 'own' kind. (Like British expats always keep in their own groups)!!!!!!
In general this classism/caste-ism is disappearing, The new prime minister voted in by massive majority had a very humble back ground.

My 6p worth, every race hates every other race to a greater or lesser degree, and of course with exceptions.
In the uk the asians hate the africans who hate back, the british hate everyone, the irish have the kerry men. Its quite comical how some of it is hidden but its there. I remember an indian guy who had an IT problem. As the support manager i sent my most knowledgeable person to help him, and he refused to admit to her existNce, let alone discuss it with her, it was a caste thing.
An african project manager engineered an entirely nigerian project team, who didnt know how to deliver the requirement but could have team meetings nobody could overhear. The sikh baggage loaders at a well known uk airport who have terminals sorted by sect, the polish drivers ina local authorities bus depot who hound out non polish. Its everywhere.
I tink we need a new thread, in your country who hates who?
