Hello - Advice on car buying please?
Hello to you all.
This is my very first post, having just discovered this forum, and first impressions are that it looks very good indeed.
So, lets crack on with business. As you can see from my profile, I'm currently in the UK, Nottingham, and have been offered a job in Riyadh. The package is all good, includes accomodation, medical, flights ,education for kids etc, and of course, more money than I'm on now. The job sounds great and can't wait to get out there. I'm Muslim anyway, born in Kenya, brought up in Bradford, so multi cultural and culture shock are terms and phrases I've known since a young age
My main request is for any info on car buying. I'll want to buy my own motor as soon as I get out there, so what are the things I needs to look for? What is the equiavalent of MoT and Road Tax if there is such a thing?
I'll have around £3-4k to buy another car with, so nothing fancy, but a good solid motor. From the limited ads I've found on t'internet, the bulk of cars for sale are from the far east - Toyota's and Hyundais, with quite a few Chevrolet's. I'm used to driving german cars here, and they look to be scarce out there.
Are there any web sites I can look at with pics / details of cars for sale. Do prices tend to higher when its an expat selling to another expat rather than local to local?
I've onlu just had teh job offer come through, and expect it to take about three mnths before I'm out there - does that sound realistic?
TIA for any info, appreciated.

The Saudi posters have not been online for a while...most of us are in the UAE so not able to help you.
Did you do a search...there might be some info there already.

Hi MH, thanks for the response. I've haven't searched on this Forum - perhaps will give that a try. Have done a lot of searches on other sites / Google, but with not much luck so far.
Cheers.

Not come across a forum as good as this one, your wasting your time on some others, one word answers, yes and no, question for this site though how come 30 regularly clock in but only a handful respond?

true...a couple of times there have been threads started to invite 'lurkers' to post, or at least tell why they just lurk and not post, just out of curiosity...but they never respond...I guess they are just after information and do not want to be an active member on BE...or they are turned off by the clique...
