Default Health insurance

Hello everybody.

I have a job offer in Dubai.

Is it normal that only employee get health insurance coverage through employer. While rest of family should pay for own health insurance.

How is it for most of expats in Dubai. Does employer covers family or only employee. Whats is the norm?

Is there anyone who can share range of health insurances. Or maybe a reliable sites, so i can calculate cost for my family.

regards.
Ahmed

It depends on the employer - if they don't offer cover for your family then that suggests they are not the most generous or enlightened of employers. Others can advise on the details of insurance better but if your family is not part of a group scheme (like employer insurance) it could be pricey to get decent cover. Google health insurance Dubai and you will find some options including price comparison sites but beware all the small details and exclusions....

From what i know it is mandatory for the employer to provide health insurance for spouses and children if their visa sponsorship is under the employee - although this may only apply to Abu Dhabi.

Under Dubai Health Authority (DHA) rules the employer is only legally obliged to provide cover for their employees. They do not have to insure dependents although that is encouraged by the DHA.

I stand corrected
But we have some employees whose visa is under Abu Dhabi (via an agent) and the agent told us that by law the employer has to also provide health insurance for the employee's family ie spouse and any kids.

That's right as they are on AD visas and so come under HAAD rules, not DHA. The rules there are different and cover must also be provided for one spouse and up to three children to age 18. Second wives and subsequent children are the responsibility of the sponsor.

Hi again,
Thanks for informations.

Is there any who can tell me range for medical insurance for 2 adults and 3 children.

Because my company does not offer insurance for dependents. Even normally company does offer insurance for dependents.

Or any insurance persons in this forum.

I do not know about UAE but when I worked foe Saudi Arabian Airlines in KSA the deal was similar. No health cover for dependants - although I was there on accompanied status.
American citizens got full cover. We did not.

The range is vast and depends on age and health. If you have a Dubai visa then your employer has to insure you, so do you need cover for two adults as well as three children?

Really basic cover could start in the region of AED 8,000 (very basic and not recommended) and go up to over AED 100,000 for super high end and worldwide cover.

It really is impossible to say as we have to consider both scope (local/regional/worldwide) and level of cover and then ages. Personal medical history makes a difference to final premiums too.
