Default SARS in Middle East

Not scare-mongering, just one to keep an eye on:

British health authorities have alerted the U.N. of a new respiratory virus in a severely ill patient from Qatar.

Sadly, it's that attitude (Inshall'ah, not yours) that makes this region one of the most dangerous places for a disease to break out.

I was sort of hoping that this was innacurate reporting (given the source, which also ran a story about an 80-year old man raping a cow and an alleged rape of a duck), but the WHO have confirmed it:

And of course, should someone fall ill, none of the god bothers would think of keeping them all there under quarantine. (Imagine the service to the world...)

these new things crop up almost daily around the world.
there is almost no doubt that the greatest threat to mankind is a bug of some form that will wipe out vast vast numbers of us. This will happen its not an if but a when and as pointed out haj or the kumbh mela could be a major vectoring factor although more likely is an individual in a business city like dubai causing global chaos.

the film contagion is a pretty good representation of what will happen

more scary is that the govts would lie about it to keep face.

case in point is the new "flesh eating" antibiotic resistant bug thats shown up in the UK and has come from Pakistan and India, both of whom are denying the existence of the bug (which makes mrsa look cute).

Perhaps it came over with a SE Asian maid or some other domestic?
