Default Electrician wanting work in dubai

I was just wondering how easy it is to get work in dubai as an electrician, how I go about it, and how long it will take?

Simple answer. You'll earn peanuts (a few hundred £ a month) and be crammed into a labour camp with 12 other men in your room and shipped into site in a bus with bars on the windows.

Don't bother.

Ah but there´s a huge gap between specialist salaries and more common jobs.
If you for example are a P.D or perhaps a plant manager in the UK you can expect something like 2-3 times the pay you get in England.

Unless you are a native of course, they are guaranteed comfy jobs with decent pay.

Simply because not everyone knows what they are talking about. Certain professions are well paid but not those that Indians/Filipinos can do for a tenth of the price.

woooooaaaahhhh there people

I came to the middle east as a (kind of) electrician...(ok my prof quals and experience made me an Electrical Engineer) but my first job was as an electrical supervisor, which believe me, any UK sparky with a bit of common sense could do easily.

and trust me, i dont live in a labour camp or get paid peanuts..

What industry are you in?, quals? experience?

Yes but its the professional qualifications that make the difference here. An electrical engineer and a sparky are not really the same, n'est-ce pas?

That was also 4 years ago which in Dubai terms is a long long time. It was also when it was probably more of a hardship post hence the higher wages.

And it also depends on the industry. If you're in marine, gas or oil then yeah, maybe you'd earn a decent wage. But new build these days....nah. Not unless you're doing something specialists, but then a lot of specialist companies here tend to bring people in temporarily from overseas.

Don't forget...its all about supply and demand.

oil and gas, 4 years ago it was not a hardship posting here. The same position is paying nearly 30K now.

Agree, construction should not be compared to rig building. any old numpty can construct a high rise, (thats why they let ozzies be construction managers etc) but oil rigs are somewhat more complicated.

In that case then yeah i agree.....there is still probably money to be earnt.

I wouldn't actually mind getting some oil and gas experience...or has that ship sailed now?

My hubby is an electrical and Maintenance supervisor in the oil and gas industry.... never in his life as he dealt with Maintenance... he is getting a quick crash course.... At home he was a project engineer for Electric company.

i agree it is the qualifications though, esp now everyone wants to come out here and earn cash.. employers have their 'pick of the litter' now
