Dubai Country Club - possible closure

Re: Dubai Country Club - possible closure
Gary Chapman is dead then? Sevens will be in Sports City from 2008, that I'm pretty sure of.
It doesn't have to be Emirates that closes it completely. Name the good grass roots facilities left in Dubai. Cheap golf? oh no that closed, cricket...oh no that closed, football pitches? no but there is a Man Utd academy...oh and you can toil away at Insportz...isn't there a squash league at DCC which would close? BUT if you are into horse racing or endurance you can all the cash you want.
But hey, we're getting a 60,000 seat stadium, a 5,000 seat hockey stadium and world class training facilities for top athletes...
Emirates fly 10s of millions of people each year, and are always overbooked. They're not going to be too worried by a low level revolt.
Sorry to be a cynic...but thats the way things are here. Local rugby is grass roots, international rugby is different.

Found this on Emirates website, not sure if you have seen it...

There is NO WAY the Sevens are moving to Sports City, W10.
It won't be ready in time.
It will only have ONE pitch - which would accomodate the main competition but, despite your fears, the event will not go ahead without the "grass roots" tournament alongside it (vets, ladies, youths, etc).
Sports City has NEVER BEEN an option. NEVER BEEN discussed.
The chances of the Sevens moving to Sports City are LOW.
How low?
Lower than a low-loader ferry, captained by Arthur Lowe, leaving Lowestoft at low tide bound for the Low Countries with a cargo of low-alcohol Lowenbrau.
Low, in other words.

Re: Dubai Country Club - possible closure
This document states that the new Emirates facility is on the Al Ain road, which is where the supposed Country Club relocation would have been, not at Sports City, although the mention of Dubai Land would suggest otherwise.
As far as we are aware, it is the same piece of land that was to be divided between the Country Club, the Exiles and Emirates.
There is so much going on to "preserve" the heritage/history of the UAE, yet at the first opportunity, it's "bollox to that, let's shut down the one club that's as old as the sodding country". Without as much as a by-your-leave.
This town sucks!!!!

This was all *before* the 1% downpayment deal to try and shift the thousands of unsold units at JBR
