Buying a laptop in Dubai
Hi,
I'm coming out to Dubai in August with my Family.
I've had conflicting advice about whether to buy a laptop in the UK and bring it out with me or wait and buy one in Dubai.
On the one hand I am told it will be much cheaper to buy one in Dubai, plus it would be configured for use out there.
On the other hand I am told that you cannot, or at least are not supposed to, download certain software in UAE, eg Skype, and need to have it already on your computer.
What do people think?
Regards.

err given the current fx rate - anything you buy out here will be much more expensive than the UK.
If i was you, i would bring one from the UK and download all the porn and all other dodgy apps/software you can...because out here, without a vpn, most of the popular tv sites, communication sites etc are blocked.

Just don't label the p0rn folder as p0rn in case they want to have a gander.

If buying with Dirhams then it's cheaper here with no VAT.

Aye, buying it in local currency will be a little cheaper than UK - unless you can pick one up at Duty Free UK Airport, then it's perhaps a better deal.
All the stuff here ( KSA ) comes with default English / Arabic keyboard. I didn't want all that nonsense on my keyboard, so tend to buy in the UK.

If you have never been to the UAE before - I would buy in the UK and bring it out, because when you first arrive you will have so much on your plate already that you won't need to have this on it as well. You will be glad you already have the laptop.

or go to Computer Plaza in Bur Dubai, get it configured in the manner you want, with the extras on you want and the keyboard you want.
Quality job, you get what you want and don't pay for stuff you don't.
I heartily recommend the guys on the ground floor (near the back wall) directly underneath the escalators.
