Default Allowance for Non resident landlords

Do Non resident landlords get the UK basic tax allowance? (yes registered as a non resident landlord)

After filling the SA100 and the property section myself and the missus have a grand total profit of GBP 4300 each for our house and a flat we rent. We have no other UK income. Thanks

ER

@Millhouse yes we are both British citizens, registered as non resident landlords as we do not live in the UK. I have read through the HMRC website and its not very clear if non residents still get the allowance.

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: You're eligible for it, but you only get it if you tick the box to claim it. Otherwise, they won't apply it. This has happened to me.

It's either box 15 or 16 depending on where you live of the Residency pages (SA109).

Me and the wife are NRL, and we both get it. HMRC will add up your rentals, and give you both the allowance. We have had no issues.

er... are you talking about self-assessment markhighpeak? If so, it seems strange to say HMRC add them up. In self-assessment, you do the adding up yourself.

If your situation is at all complex (e.g. tenants in common), you should be filing self-assessment anyway.
