Default Air purifiers? do they really work?

Wife and baby have arrived in Muscat along with the dog. In the coming summer months it gets quite dusty, and life in the AC bubble begins, so wondering if its worthwhile investing in an Air Purifier. These are not cheap, so would appreciate any recommendations, and the types to avoid. TIA

I wouldn't think Muscat quite as dusty as Dubai or AD, being more removed from the desert. Could be wrong.

In my experience you don't need an air purifier but you do need a humidifier.

I've used ionizers in dusty places, and I think they helped. £15 quid from the chemists in UK.

Doesn't your AC have a filter? ..... I am not sure what a typical AC system design would be in Muscat - is air drawn through a slotted vent cover on the wall (or possibly floor or ceiling), and then recirculated through other smaller vents back into the rooms?

Quite likely that the building itself isn't very well sealed, unless its a very new build and even then many new builds in the ME are shoddily built and finished.

I can vouch that everything I have constructed has been executed in a shoddy fashion, to match the shoddy design, shoddy materials and shoddy subcontractors on the project.

Shoddy.

Though having said that the AC is probably a split unit, not drawing air from outside- except though the cracks in the walls

Muscat is nowhere near as dusty as Dubai. Now, with all doors and windows open to take advantage of the cooler weather, we have very little dust inside. In fact, I'd say it is no worse than it used to be in our home in Sussex. The only exception to this is when it gets very windy and dust does get blown indoors, but only if we don't get the doors and windows closed quickly enough.

Away with your facts, and let us speculate from afar.

I developed asthma living in Muscat to the extent it was almost copd and I've never smoked.
Air purifiers do work, but....
Regularly clean up your split acs.
Seal up your windows and doors. With silicon putty aka bathroom sealant.
Bowsher sands are not what they were 10 years ago, so that helps with dust but is sad to see gone.
Stay away from down wind of the cement factory and mine.... yes there is one.
Love as close to the coast as you can, but away from the the sq highway.
