Default Los Angeles meet up

So I've been here exactly 8 weeks, and the wife and kids a couple of weeks, so maybe it's time to meet some Brits. Though having said that, one did sell me a printer in Staples a couple of days ago.

I've no idea how these things go - do people just meet up in a bar or something? We have kids in tow so if somebody knows a kid-friendly place I'm all ears! I guess somewhere within several miles of downtown LA to make it central. After all, everybody's got cars, right?!

Don't take it personally Geoff! I don't think I've seen a meet up actually get pulled off yet...

Maybe I'm wrong on that but it's certainly pretty hard going to tie it down and get peeps to attend...

Yeah, I'm joking! It's such a big area that I'm not surprised. Most other people seem to be concentrated around small pockets but we're really spread out here.

It's the same here in Houston to be honest. None of us seem to live that far away but we're also not that close either.

Try www.meetup.com I'm in San Diego and found a brilliant Brit meet on there. I'm assuming there will be one in LA too.

Agree. There is an active local British expats meetup.com here, that I never go to because I am anti social. There does not appear to be an overlap with BE members. But who can tell.

I would just turn up at one of the many British pubs or join the BritsInLA facebook group (though they are mostly luvvies). I joined the LA Spurs (being that I am a Spurs fan) and have met some people - attend matches at various pubs throughout the season. There are also groups for other football teams.

You are quite a way out - I live and work in the city - you are about 90+ miles away - nice part of the world, though.

It was more to meet people on BritishExpats than just Brits in general. Some people seem to need other Brits as a kind of comfort zone I guess; me, I can take it or leave it.

Football is one thing I do NOT miss about the UK! Admittedly unusual in that respect.

Yeah, I know I'd have to go down the hill to meet others. We go every couple of weeks anyway, relatives and whatnot.

Cheers!

Lets just make it San Diego....we are just about within several miles of LA... and so much less traffic!

There's a few other LA brits on here I thought, they will appear I'm sure...

I am living in Long Beach, having just moved here in July 2012.
It would be nice to meet with some Brits over here, where does everyone go?

Hey Ryan, there is a British Dominion Social Club in Garden Grove. Its has a mebership over more than 1000 people, it has all the soccer games live or on tape delay. They have some bar foods but all your British beer and a lot of Brits to get to know. Send me a private message for more info - I can arrange a met at this location for any number of people.
Thanks, Mark.

Again, I would try the BritsInLA Facebook group: they meet every Saturday and Tuesday, I think and do other stuff as well. If you are a football fan, most of the clubs meet at pubs to watch the games. The Kings Head in Studio City is always pretty packed.

Sounds like a version of hell! Definitely a conversation killer when an American realises you're British, so their next question is "You like soccer then?" and the answer is "no"!

We're often down that way so we should pop in one day.
