Any Brits around Katy, Texas
Hello I'm a Scottish lass who just moved here 3 weeks ago with my partner and wondered if there were any other Brits around my area?

Lots of Brits and their families in Katy and Houston. I think we mostly check the threads that say "Houston" though. Welcome to the area!

How old are you and do you have kids? Can probably point you in some directions if so. And if you are Scottish, I'm sure you will come across Liz F, who is head of the Scottish Mafia round here . She's actually really good for contacts into all sorts of different groups if that's what you're after

I'm 40 with no kids here (22 year old son back home). I enjoy walking, cycling, music, eating out oh and mustn't forget shopping lol. I'm at home all day so just interested to know if there are any like minded people out there. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly received

Biking is good around here, so long as you like wind and flat country
There are a lot of cycling groups around - Sun Ski Sports at Katy Mills Mall have a weekly weekend ride, as do Bike Barn on Mason. Bike Barn tends to a be a bit more "hardcore" and although they advertise as "no drop", I know a few who have complained that that is not how they actually ride. There is a facebook group called Katy Cycling Club (or something like that) that have more leisurely groups, as well as some quick ones. Or head out to the Shell garage at Fulshear and tag onto a group that looks about right.
There are a lot of Fall events coming up as well - have a look at Active.com. Tour De Donut is always a fun one. The big cycling event is the Houston - Austin MS150 in April. Leading up to that there is about a 12 week training series with some really good, supported rides out in some beautiful countryside North and West from Katy. Registration for the MS150 is coming up on 10/10, and if you sign onto a team like SSS or Bike Barn, you get access to the training series. If your other half is working at one of the majors employers, check whether they have teams entering as it is well worth getting access to the training series somehow.
Walking - not so much. In fact, I think it may be illegal....
Eating out....oh yeah............!
Shopping...not my department!
I'm seeing Liz F tomorrow for a drink. She organizes a few expat coffee mornings, Burns night supers, line-dancing (you laugh - give it a while!) etc. I can pass on contacts if you like - PM me.
