We are bringing our own cars from US along with with ever we can fit in one 40 ft and one 2o ft container. My company is paying for all relocation costs.

So this is what I have line out my fix expanses:

Housing 11250 AED Monthly
School 11250
Car Patrol / Maintenance = 6500 (2 cars)
Monthly Groceries = 5000
Phone= 1500
Club = 1500
Misc = 5000

Total 48,000 AED Monthly

I think possible saving may be 5-6K AED Monthly........

Any Thought?
Housing is a long way off. Also, utilities... for a large house these might be quite high too (i.e. 2,000AED / month)

Have you been to Al Reef? It's not to everyone's taste... worth taking a look at it first.

yep agree not to everyones taste. the walls dont have much concrete in them, and considering its position right next to the second runway!!! nice community spirit tho, but there have been loads of complaints and probs as with most places here.

hi sunsolaris, your situation is bit similar to me, i am moving from uk to AD and have the same package 60k pm and also have 4 kids (thinking about al yasmina and it will cost around 180k) and the 4 bedroom villa around 165k in al reef. do they villas comes with appliances built in? my company is not paying fro the yearly flight to home but only covering for medical. are flight standard? i think your car petrol/maintenace looks bit loaded. I have only 2k pm (maybe i have got it wrong?). I am moving in end dec and the family in summer. all the best

99.9% do not come with appliances. flights are not standard anymore, in the past yes you got yearly flights, but now most company's will give you allowances/lump sum. most car allowances are around 2k.

Reality check...

How much do you save per month in the UK?

If your budgeting is correct (which it never is and you end up spending more!), then you are planning on moving a family of 6 people (including yourself) so that you can save an estimated 5-6k AED/ month.

Now... that is about GBP 1,000/ month on current exchange rates. Dollar is weakening, so that could fall to 800/ month. Let's say you currently save 300quid a month. Is it really worth all that agro. for 500quid extra a month?

You are planning on saving 10% of your salary each month. I personally wouldn't cut it that fine unless the options at home were very limited (which in my case is true )

i agree not worth the agro, you will have big headache trying to find schools, its easier to find a house now, but they are stupidly overpriced, and the ad ll's still have their heads in sand. you have all the "hidden" taxes, things are very expensive here, its cheaper to buy groceries in the uk, wish there was a tesco/sainsburys here, very expensive here if you have to feed 6 people too.

Agree with all the above - the package is very tight for a family of 6 and another thing that people don't realise when they move out here is that you can be in a job one minute and out on your ear the next and it's not always your fault. If you do decide to come I would advise you to come alone and see how the job goes for a few months rather than uproot your family.

Us too, the reason we're coming is because dh's job is being permanently relocated to AD and we were given the choice of move, or be redundant. And in the current climate being made redundant wasn't such a promising option......

We will be able to live on a par with how we live now, we won't struggle, but we're not predicting being able to save a huge amount....

Sometimes there isn't a choice eh?!!

hi emirates, i will be coming over myself for 6months+ and if kids get the places in school then they will come to start school from Sep11. I may not be saving much but at least i will be meeting the committments where this is not the case here. my main worry is kids settling in new schools and housing etc. i am also taking this opportunity as an international expereince otherwise all is working ok job is 10 minutes where we live and kids go to good schools although not private.
