Default Faculty salary@ American University of Sharjah

Hi everyone,

I am expecting an Assistant Professor level position at American University of Sharjah. I have a PhD from a reputed university and few years of postdoctoral research experience. I appreciate if anyone can enlighten me on the following matters:

1. Salary range (I don't have western passport)?
2. Does salary depend on passport (as I heard)?
3. Is on-campus faculty housing reasonable?
4. Can European driving license be converted into local license without taking the driving test?
5. Range of the children education allowance? Is it sufficient for two children to attend an international school?
6. How is the overall trend for turn over? Firing and hiring is like in other universities in the UAE?

Thank you in advance for your replies!

You need to be a little more explicit on your 'non - western passport '. Asian passports get paid far less than Western.

I think it will be difficult to get a useful opinion here. Not many academics read this forum. Have you been given an offer ? You may have to simply wait and see what the AU in Sharjah offer you.

I didn't know that there was a country called Asia. It must be near the country called Africa.

Anyway, about the driving license... no you cannot convert a license from Europe when you have a passport from Asia. The countries have to be the same.

Unless of course your passport and driving licence are both from Turkey, which I guess qualifies as both Asia and Europe depending on what you are after in at the time. Then again, I doubt the Turks can convert anyway.
