Default Chartered Engineer

Hey all,

What this exactly means?

Once in an interview I was asked if I was a chartered engineer, I answered, Im an engineer... plain haha

So, what is a chartered engineer? are all engineers with a british degree chartered? how does a venezuelan like me with an UNchartered engineer degree gets chartered?

Thanx!

AFAIK the various bodies in the UK which have the right to confer chartered status on their members don't restrict membership to UK citizens. On that basis you should be able to apply to the most approproriate body (it depends what kind of engineer you are). Generally, the body (eg the Institute of Civil Engineers) will require a) that you have a qualifying degree, b) that you have undertaken post graduate training while employed, usually while being mentored by a Chartered Engineer, and c) passed some exams at the end of that training.

Do a google search for chartered engineers of your discipline in order to find the right body, and their website should explain how you can become chartered through them.

Good luck.
