What happens with the "mysterious brown envelope"?
This has probably been asked before, but....does anyone know what happens with that "mysterious brown envelope" that we give to the immigration officer upon arrival into the US? Do they send it back to the BCIS? Does it serve any other purpose after immigration? Will it be in front of an officer at the AOS interview for example?

I've been told the brown envelope goes to a central holding area and will be forwarded to the DO when you file for AOS. Others have said the agent at the POE asks them where they will be living and then says they will forward it on to the DO they would be using.

How do I know? Because we were placed on hold for approval until the original file which had been sent to national records in Lee's Summit, MO had been unearthed and delivered back to the DO.
