Visa issuance/ port of entry
Hello! Got my visa approved at the embassy last week and yesterday the CEAC status website finally said that it’s been issued! Didn’t take too long. Does anybody know how long t will take to get to me?
Also when I enter the US, I’ll have to have all my documents on me still when I get to customs? I don’t know how long it usually takes but I have a 4 hour lay over anyway.
Thanks!
Joshua

Re: Visa issuance/ port of entry
It took about a week to get my passport back when issued.
At the Port of entry you will present the passport and envelope that the embassy will also send to you.
You will be processed and then told to get bags and proceed to secondary inspection.
There you'll be given your passport back (maybe after waiting a while) and you're good to go.

This depends on the airport - at ATL. My packet was processed at the desk without referral to secondary. Took around 20 minutes, this was however a specific line for those with Visas rather than the general visitor lines, but it was still out in the main holding area.

My POE was JFK. I was referred to secondary (and I wasn't allowed to grab my bags beforehand).
I was in there around an hour and by the time I was out I couldn't find my bags as they had been taken off the carousel and put in the corner of the baggage claim room/hall. Definitely wasn't the greatest arrival into the US thinking my bags had been taken!

There is usually at least one person directing lines. (There were numerous at JFK, and one when we flew back into Denver after going back to the UK for Christmas). At this point I'd have the envelope in my hand and they'll point you in the right direction.

I returned to the United States via Denver last October. Even though I am a U.S. Citizen, as a matter of professional interest, I observe how the other passengers are being treated. I will admit that I was impressed with the personnel in Denver. They were quite good at guiding people to the right place.

I came in at LAX, it was the usual hot mess, but once at the desk it was a real non event, The Border Agent opened 'the envelope' had a quick glance, stamped my passport and welcomed me to America!
No secondary at all, Maybe LA is used to us foreign types coming through.
