This is an idea, I supposed we wouldnt have to tell the registry office over here 28 - 70 days notice before proceeding then? A quick informal deal in the US require notice of marriage though like UK? Or can we just turn up to a chapel in Vegas and get it boxed off?

It is apparently a language quirk between America and the UK.

In the US we use the term Citizen not National.

It seems to have variable usage in the UK. I don't remember anyone in the UK using anything other than "British citizen" when I lived there, apart from one colleague who was a military odd-ball (and younger than me) who insisted he was a British subject, as being a "citizen" indicated some sort of socialist take-over.

It varies by state - some states require you to have held the marriage license for 2-3 days, others, most of them I think, allow you to obtain a marriage license and marry immediately.

Good Mornin' Afternoon Evenin' where ever you all may be!

I have posted on this for a while as I dont have much to report, in the same situation until first week of June (she wont tell me what day shes coming!!)

<< snipped >>

... getting married in the UK would only delay us 2 months more and hundreds of £££ in travelling, and the lack of annual leave from my current employment, would make it difficult for me to go to the USA until November...thus delaying the process even further!!

<< snipped >>

Hope your all well!

Why not just go the K-1 Fiancee Visa route? << snipped >>

Doesn't she get any time off from work? Can't she meet you in a country where you both can marry without a wait. Can marry on a Friday with you returning to the UK and her to the US on Sunday.

What is it that you're afraid of? Really, if you can't survive a few months on your own perhaps you're not yet mature enough for marriage.

Consider it the cost of doing business.

You're soon going to be leaving your current employment... why do you care if you take annual leave whether authorized or not? It's not like your UK work references are going to do you any good in the US!

If you come in on a spouse visa it can take a while to get the visa. So he may still need his UK job for a while.

If he comes in fiance visa, he won't be able to work at all for several months.

Maybe he wants the Dollar Tree visa.

Yes, I'm sure he does. My point is that there is an option to leave employment early if he wants. No one is forcing him to stay employed in order to satisfy some arbitrary visa timeline.

I don't agree with this - my first (and so far only) US employer asked for a contact e-mail for my supervisor at my Civil Service job back in the UK, and they did in fact e-mail him and get a response (which they showed me) that became the reference attached to my application.

It can happen.

My first US employer called 3 references back in the UK. I was a bit surprised that they did this. Goes to show you need to keep up a good employment record in the UK prior to leaving.

I have read (it may well have been somewhere on this website, once upon a time) that it is sensible to ask past/present UK employers to write up a reference prior to the immigration, so that you at least have something to offer potential US employers. My referees have always been a nightmare to get hold of, even from within the UK!

Not sure what use a generic reference might be in the long-term, but I might see if I can obtain one in the event that I do end up stacking shelves at the local Dollar General.

I have been called by several employers for references for former co-workers. A lot of these come from employment check companies for want of a better word. I had written references but my employer still wanted to call.

So I proposed. and she said.....YES

Were now in a position where we want to marry as soon as possible and get on with the CR1. Were going to go to a courthouse in September and get married, but while we wait to see each other again, We want to start gathering all the necessary documentation needed to submit the evidence of a bona fide relationship. I could go on and on with pictures and screenshots of Facebook posts of everyone send us well wishes etc, but I feel I may be wanting to submit too much.

What do I need to gather together from my side (UK) as the beneficiary to the petition?

I have copies of every receipt, tickets to days out, boarding passes from our holidays, my birth certificates (long and short), 4 passport sized photos, National insurance number, driving licence, old expired passports, permits and passes to national parks, car hire receipts with both our names on them from various locations, 1000's of photographs, E-mails to each other, facebook screenshots etc, screenshots of our calls made to each via whatsapp and skype, photocopies of postcards she has sent me, bank statements, florist receipts, hair salon reciepts, and engagements ring receipt and insurance documentation.

The only thing we have never had is property leases or a joint bank account due to us not finding it necessary.

There is so much, I also need advice on how to submit all of this evidence so its practical and organised!

I know its alot im asking for here but if all my questions could get answered Id be made up.

Thank you all in advance.

Www.uscis.gov, I-130 instructions. Read that and only submit what's required in those instructions.
