Default Timeframe to get GC through employment

Can anyone give me an estimate on how long it takes to get a green card
through employment nowadays? Let's say I start the process now,
how long will it take to get labor certification? On the same topic, what's
the status of PERM (labor certification process)?
Thanks.

----- It depends on many factors and your service center

----- LC in RIR or Regular? Which state your employer will be filling?

---- DOL posted many times that PERM may start in October 03, but no recent update. It may start next year PERM has rigorous standard, the lawyers and employers are not happy they way it has many restrictions. Better to file LC before PERM starts.

LC through RIR in New York. Isn't PERM supposed to be faster?

First your employer have to do the advertising in news papers for RIR then your RIR is going to be submitted with NY SESA or SWA, at present NY state is processing April 2001 filed cases in RIR then these cases will go to Federal NY DOL. You can make the estimate just to get RIR LC case approved if you file now.

After LC approval you have to file I-140 and I-485 concurrently, your service center is going to be VSC. VSC has I-485 pending that was filed in 2001.
You can count the time to file LC, time taken by Lawyer+ time taken by NY State level to Approve+ then time taken by NY federal DOL to finally approve LC then I-140 filing and I-485 filing, time taken by lawyer to file +I-485 approval.

PERM is supposed to be faster nobody knows when it will start it has many strict conditions imposed on employers to file LC don’t know what will be in the final PERM regulations as they are not yet published
