Re: Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes
Ricky Gervais is a Brit with a Brit style sense of humour and an aptitude for pisstaking, a concept Americans do not seem able to grasp or interpret. They need to get over it, big time.
They will now probably erect a statue to his alter ego David Brent outside his Office down in Slough. I've been through Slough on a train and I could well understand why John Betjeman wrote that poem about the place all those years ago - even the look of the name Slough is decidedly unattractive.

Surely they got what they expected when they signed him on as host. To decry it now is pretty piss poor.

That's what I thought! It's not like no one knows his type of humor. If they wanted an entertainer they should have hired someone else.

I think it's a fuss over nothing.
I read a reference the Johnny Depp was not amused yet footage clearly shows him laughing.
I think Hanks and Allen were primed if not quite ready!
And Downy Jr is not a Gervais virgin. They've met before.
Not saying they're buddies but I think fewer people are up in arms than the media make out.
Will they ask him back? Who cares? I don't think Gervias is bothered.

Are you people really this naive? It was all set up to go exactly the way it did.

Okay,
I've never seen Ricky Gervais on the Box before, but, I watched him being interviewed by Piers Morgan, last night on CNN.
He had me laughing till my sides hurt. His humour goes well over the heads of the Americans.
It gets even funnier when you have to explain the Comedy
Jim.

I thought he was hilarious -- and so did David Letterman

I don't think the things he said were funny. They were hurtful, and mean spirited. Laughing at the expense of others is not nice at all.
