Married in Japan

Hi, I am a US Citizen residing in the US. My wife and I already got married in Japan.
Japanese marriages are recognized under US Law. Now I am in the US and she is in Japan.
Unfortunately we did not file for the I-130 in Japan. Do we qualify for the K Visa? Is it
possible for her to come here and then submit our I-130? What is the quickest legal way of
getting her to the US? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Craig, here is a web link for all information for fiancee/spousal visas. There are
others as well.

This is Alvena's site, and she has links to the other sites. There is a link to Direct
Consular Filing (DCF) on that site. Check to see if Japan is among those countries that
permit this. That would be the quickest way to go for you right now.
The K3 Visa is still in the works with the INS. So, that is not an option for you right
now. Keep watching here, and guaranteed you will know when it will become an option. I
guess you really need to do lots of homework. There is a wealth of information out there.
Most likely your wife will need to wait in Japan whilst you petition for the visa for her
to be with you in the USA. The form is I-130.
There are a few Japanese/USC couples here in the group. Hopefully they will be able to
shed some light on your situation.

others as well.

IF you can go to Japan for a short trip, you can file an I-130 for her THERE at the Tokyo
consulate and she can be in the US in 2-3 months...here are my DCF pages on procedure for
this: http://www2.apex.net/users/thehydes
Here is a URL for Japanese on this procedure, unfortunately it is only available in
Japanese language, but I hear that it is very good: http://www.patanouchi.com/
