K-1 POE Experiences? (Washington, D.C.)

I searched Kamya's POE linkpage and didn't find any information regarding experiences
from K-1ner's arriving the U.S. via BWI or Washington Dulles. (After our painful ordeal
with the U.S. Consulate, my fiancé finally got the k-1 visa and will arrive at Dulles
next month.)
Has any K-1ner had any experience arriving at this particular airport? Were the officials
helpful? rude?, etc. (Getting an EAD/stamp from this airport is just a fantasy, I know
that much!)
Thanks for any helpful info you can give.
Omo.

I can't help specifically with K-1s but I have been through Dulles many times. The last
time I had to go to secondary inspection since I currently have advance parole - this will
be where your fiance will go to be processed to.
The folks at Dulles are usually pretty friendly. They can have a number of people waiting
there at a time - when I was there, there were at least three other people with AP, a
couple of families on what looked like immigrant visas and a couple of people referred
because there were problems at primary immigration. There seemed to be someone who spoke
Spanish but other than that it would help to have at least some English.
So long as your fiance knows what to expect is the main thing I guess. At Dulles you
usually arrive (nowadays) at a regular gate and walk from there to a shuttle which takes
you to the international arrivals. Off the shuttle go left for the non-US citizen lines.
At that desk the officer will take your fiance's paperwork, put it in a folder and send
them to secondary which is on the left hand side past the regular desks with a big flag.
They've always sent me and not escorted me there but I have seen others escorted. I guess
it depends on how well they think you've understood them. In secondary inspection give
your folder to the officer, take a seat and wait to be called.
Andy.

This is not a K1 exp. eiteher, but when I have gone thru Dulles, I go into the Non-US line
and a inspector always sends me to the shorter US line, I have a CDN passport, I found
them friendly. If he speaks english he should have no problem.

My husband arrived at Dulles about 6 mos. ago and said the INS officers were courteous,
efficient, and friendly. Again this was not a K-1 but an immigrant visa (we did DCF), but
as the others have pointed out, the folks at Dulles are obviously used to dealing with
immigration, AP etc. It only took an extra 15 minutes or so for them to review his papers
and stamp his passport. I expect your guy will have a similar experience.

Hi Omo,
My wife came though Dulles on a K-1 in September. She found them very easy to deal with,
if you can speak some English. Worked them hard for the EAD (mostly just to see if we
could find out anything), nothing worked on that end.

Thanks for the info. But, something does concern me whem my beloved reaches secondary
inspection at POE. I heard that k-1ners are briefly "re-interviewed" there (basically
they're asked the same k1 questions: how did you meet your fiancé, how long you've known
each other, when's the wedding day, etc.)
Excuse me, but it just seems absurd that they have to go through the same line of
questioning when all of that was taken care of at the U.S. Consulate as well as on paper
from the INS - sheesh!!!
Does anyone else know otherwise?

I believe my wife said it wasn't a big deal, just kind of checking to make sure you
really were the same person. However, she had a real long grilling at Moscow, so perhaps
the POE interview was easy by comparison. I will check with her later to see if there is
more to tell...
