Default K-1 Interview Checklist

Hi guys!

Ahead of my K-1 interview on April 23rd, I have been gathering the required documents, and wanted to check that I have not overlooked anything.

I have on my list right now:
  • Letter from Embassy
  • Passport
  • I-29F (I have the original, and the stamped version returned to me by the embassy)
  • 4 x US standard passport photos
  • Print out of appointment email
  • Receipt of payment for interview
  • DS-160 Confirmation
  • NOA-2
  • Evidence which was submitted with I-29F
  • Additional evidence of ongoing relationship since filing date
  • Dated letter from fiancee re-affirming her desire to marry me
  • Full Birth Certificate
  • ACRO

I will also have my I-134 with the following evidence from MIL (fiancee is student):
  • Previous W-2
  • Employment letter showing date of employment, salary, permanent contract status
  • Last two pay stubs
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Bank Statement showing when account opened, total amount deposited for past year, and present balance
  • Proof of her assets (property deeds)

I feel like I have been quite exhaustive, but please let me know if there is anything I have overlooked!

Tax transcripts?

Also be organized. They'll ask for documents in quick succession.

Looks good, as but as Tom mentions you should also try and bring proof of tax return, either a 1040 or transcripts. If it helps here is my checklist. They checked precisely 0% of the evidence of an ongoing relationship, but it made me more confident knowing I had it.

Good luck!

My Birth Certificate and copy
My passport and copy
4 x Coloured US size passport photos
MRV confirmation fee and instruction page and copy
I-134 affidavit, and copy, as well as USC birth certificate, Bank statement, Tax returns and copies.
Police certificate and copy
Approved i-129f and copy
DS 160 confirmation page and copy
US embassy received petition letter and copy
i-797 approval notice and copy
Courier Receipt
VCU1, attachments and copy

Proof of ongoing relationship

Flight tickets USC to London
Flight tickets UKC to US
Flight tickets for trips we made together

You only need either her passport copy OR her birth certificate, not both. Its just proof that she's a USC.

follow this advice.

It's very much quick-fire when it comes to reaching for documents.

They didn’t ask for half of my paperwork and evidence. In fact they didn’t ask for any evidence at all, but I still took loads! Everybody is different. I had everything set out in different plastic slips inside a big binder, saved a lot of messing around.

Good Luck!

They didn't ask for additional evidence at the US Consulate in Montreal either and that was back in 1998. Nice to take a few items but don't go for the overkill. Completely unnecessary.

Thanks for the response! Are you able to provide a bit more info on these?

I haven't seen reference to the VCU1 before but have found the form you are referring to - is this something they asked for on the day?

Does i-797 refer to the NOA2? Again, it's the first time I've seen reference to it so am a little cofused.

I'm fairly sure I haven't received a receipt from the courier themselves. My email from the consulate lists 'Courier Selection', but DX Group haven't sent me a receipt as of right now.

Thanks again.

No, because the W-2 is only part of the whole tax return. You need either a photocopy of the whole tax return, or official IRS transcrpts.

Oops ignore the VCU1 bit, that was specific to my application, although I didn't need it anyway.

Yes form I-1797 is the Notice of Action form

I just used the payment receipt for the courier, they didn't ask to see it.

Small note which I don't think requires it's own thread:

In the interview booking portal, there is an option to 'Check DS-160 Status'. When I click through and enter my details, it returns a result of 'No Status', which I assume will stay this way until I have attended the interview? A very small matter, but obviously I want to leave no stone unturned, so thought I would check that this is the expected result prior to interview?

Thanks as always

I don’t really know what you mean by that. But if you’ve done your Ds-160 and have it to hand I don’t think the status matters? Someone else will have to clarify that. Do you mean when you check the Visa Status on the CEAC website? Because that will change when you get approved, most of the time it goes into “Administritive Processing” for a little while, it did for me anyway, and then to “Issued”.

As far as the interview booking website is concerned, if you’re interview is scheduled and you’ve completed the Readiness For Interview form, you should be all set.

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/immigrant-visas-notification-applicant-readiness-form/ this is the form here, it’s just to confirm that you have all your documents etc..

As long as you have the DS-160 printed with the barcode you're fine. Don't over think the process, especially when it comes to technology, because most of these websites have issues!
