Tracking Our Visa Application:

Aug. 7th, 2014: I-130 posted to USCIS London.
Aug. 14th, 2014: Credit card charged for I-130 (no 'receipt of petition' email or text was received, although we did fill out the form).
Aug. 20th, 2014: Emailed to politely ask if they received our I-130 (even though our card was charged, because I'm a paranoid freak...).
Aug. 26th, 2014: Got an email reply stating they did get our I-130, and it will take 45-60 days to process, and that our payment was taken on Aug. 14th.

CR-1 Application

14th April - mailed I-130 petition to USCIS
28th April - payment taken [no receipt of petition email received]
21st June - receive letter from USCIS stating I-130 approved 14th May
8th July - had not received case number so submitted a web enquiry
10th July - received email stating embassy had sent me a letter with the case number on 19th June and provided case number (I did not receive the letter)
10th July - booked medical for 22nd July
13th July - submitted DS-260 and readiness form
22nd July - attended medical
31st July - received letter stating interview date of 5th August
5th August - visa approved!
11th August - picked up visa from courier. Flight booked for 28th August.
28th August - arrived with no issues at Detroit - hooray!

One brief note from my experience - I did not have the long form of my birth certificate at the interview (I did have the short form). I realised my error too late to obtain the long form. I wouldn't advise anyone to assume from this that the short form will be okay (it clearly says you need the long form) but in case you're stuck and need to attend the interview with only the short form, you still have hope!
