I485, L1-A and changing employer

Hello, all. I would appreciate if someone could please answer my question.
I was holding L1-A visa (international manager), got I-140 approved and recently applied
for adjustment of status. My questions are:
1. Will six month rule be applicable for L1-A holders? In other words, will I be able to
change my job 180 days after submitting I-485? If answer is yes, will this job need to
have the same level of responsibility as was required for my L1-A visa (managerial
position), or I might be able to take a job as software engineer with bachelor degree
requirement?
2. What date is initial when counting that 6 month period? Date when I485 application was
received by INS or date of the notice (which is, in my case, one month later)
Thank you for any answer

Pero: The 180 day rule applies to anyone who filed an I-485 based upon employment in the
1st - 3rd preferences, regardless of their nonimmigrant status. Some attorneys (not me)
however think it only applies to persons who filed their I-485 after 10/16/00. The 180
days begin the date INS receives your I-485.

My comments are based upon my over 15 years of full time experience as an immigration
attorney. It has not been confirmed by research, and one or more immigration officials or
other attorneys may disagree. This is not legal advice and is provided on the
understanding that no attorney-client relationship is created or intended.
