EAD
Yay, at long last I now have my EAD!! Woo Hoo! Hang the bunting and fill the balloons!
What i want to know is, do I have to get a social security number, or is my alien registration number all I need for now? or is that my social security number?

Re: EAD
I would like to get a job, obviously, but it didn't say anywhere on the form that came with it that I would also need a SSN, that's just me asking if I need one or not.
Everywhere I have looked it says that you need to be a citizen before applying for a SSN. But obviously I will need one with my EAD.
But once I get a SSN, I can learn how to drive can't I? That would be awesome.

Re: EAD
Go to the website of the school you want to attend. Look on their admissions page to see what status or ID you need to enroll.
Go to the website for the DMV in your state and look up their requirements to see what they need to issue you a license.
There isn't a list of what you can do with an EAD because like a SS number, people and institutions use it for a purpose it was not intended for. On its face, all it does is give you permission to work. But, since it is an indication that you are in legal immigration status, DMVs, schools and other places will accept it as proof that you are living in the US legally.

First get your Social Security application underway. There may be a short delay while they verify your new status.

Re: EAD
An EAD is an immigration document. It only gives you authorisation from immigration to work and that's it. It has no relation whatsoever to your ssn which is your registration within the tax system, a whole other system to the immigration one. Think of your ssn as your NI no, anything you needed that for, you are going to need your ssn for.
In any case yay! Better get yourself down the social so you can get to work asap!
