Default Photo requirements for visa app

I am just about to package up and send my I-129F materials, and as I was
re-reading the instructions to make sure I had everything together, I
see in the photo instructions that though they say "passport style" they
also say "3/4 view". D'OH!! thinks me (since it will be quite a trial to
get my fiance's photo retaken and sent to me). But I'm pretty sure that
in other places I've seen the photos discussed without this requirement,
and also I had a look at
http://www.immihelp.com/greencard/photograph-requirements.html which
claims that there was a change a few years ago and such a photo is no
longer required, and full-front is now the standard. Is that true? Or do
I need to get those photos retaken? Would the reject the application on
the basis of the photo being in the wrong view?

Forget about 3/4 - they now want standard PP photos.

Yep, they want standard front-faced passport style, and yes if the photos are missing from the I-129F package, it will be returned to you with an RFE, asking you to send in the photos.

Back in 2003, I needed to send 2 photos of myself (the USC) and 2 photos of my fiance. I'm not sure now how many photos are required are.

No, I meant, if I sent the photos but they were in full view when they
wanted 3/4. If they want full then this part is no problem.

The language in the I-129F instructions says "a photograph", but then it
also still says "3/4 view"... Does anyone know if it's 2 with this form,
or just 1? (I *have* two... maybe an extra won't hurt?)

USCIS and the State Department no longer want 3/4-view photos. Those were phased out a couple of years ago. Now they only want the front-view passport photos.

That being said, since you sent them front-view passport photos anyway, then you're fine.

The instructions indicate one photo of you and one photo of your fiance, but I personally remember sending two photos of each of us back in 2002. If they don't want the extra photos they can always chuck them.

Form instructions can quickly become outdated--always check the form download page at uscis.gov for 'special instructions'.

All photos are now full-face on passport style.
