Hey lovely people! We're currently working on our I751 And have a question about the affidavit.

The supporting affidavits, what is the format of how it should be written. Also it states this needs to be backed up with supporting evidence. Is this pictures of us with the family or friend?

That is it really, all the rest seems pretty straight forward.

Thanks.

Affidavits are not a requirement and are normally only included if you have scant evidenced of a commingled social and financial life together. If you have filed your taxes jointly as married, hold a bank account under both names, share the same healthcare benefits, are emergency contacts for each other on official documents, i.e. from work, share a credit card or a loan, own a home together or lease an apartment under both names, then affidavits are not necessary. Yes, photos of you both together are a nice touch as long as the time and place of its taking is noted.

The instructions seem to state on number 5 under what initial evidence is required that: affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted....

We have thousands of pictures, lease, joint bank account etc etc.

One last question, do they require 2 separate checks for the filing fee and the biometric. It doesn't clearly state.

Thanks again.

Affidavits are just one suggestion, not a requirement.

One check is fine.

Rete and Rene have given good answers.

I often felt that declarations were the weakest form of evidence.

Also, often it is not necessary to use a belt and braces approach to documentation. The idea is that you want to enable the adjudicator to see at a glance that the marriage is real.

Unless you're going to Canada (and don't have a passport that allows visa-free travel to Canada), you don't need a green card to travel abroad - it's really only useful for coming back to the US.

I have read about cover letters, do you feel this is needed, or just stick with Completed form, photos, checks?

Not required. You might benefit from doing one as a checklist for yourself to be sure that you have everything that is needed in way of evidence.

It helps to make a complete copy of the entire submission for yourself. It anything goes missing from the packet and is asked for again, you will have it right at your fingertips.

Thanks as always. We've done our check lists and feel good we have everything that hopefully they would need.

The final question on this wonderful process is what postal service do they expect. There was nothing on uscis. Would it matter if it was tracked mail and would require a signature?

After this I'll see you all for the citizenship process!! Fingers crossed.

Trackable mail is the way to go. FYI, They don't sign for anything -- it is rubber stamped.

You are correct that there will be no handwritten signature. But, a rubber or mechanical stamp can, depending on context and use, be considered a "signature." The rub is often arises on what is an acceptable signature. <sigh> This brings back repressed memories of law school.
