Not that I'm particularly bothered either way, interview or not, but I was just wondering if people know what causes a case to get waived?

Nothing in particular, and no reason you'll ever really know. Most likely if USCIS finds the case clearly approvable by the paperwork submitted, and if the service centers are getting backlogged, USCIS can approve without an interview.

I did not get called for an interview, and mine was a divorce waiver case. I have no idea why I didn't get an interview, perhaps because of the literal doorstep of verification that I included with the I-751.
