Do Not Send PM's Asking Private Immigration Questions
 

It hasn't been posted in a while and I thought I would just give a shout that the moderators on the forum will not respond with answers to PM's asking for immigration assistance/advice/experience.

Please remember we are only laypeople and the information we respond with is information that we have either experienced ourselves or have gleamed through the postings of others and through reading various immigration information posted by professionals.

It is by only posting on an open forum that any incorrect information given be corrected. It is a safeguard in place to help you.

The forum's success depends on the postings of all its members and all of their experiences, big and small. It is hoped that you will avail yourselves of the wiki which is comprised of articles written by other members and by past threads dealing with some of the common questions.

It is further hoped that you will hang around and contribute your experiences so that others can learn from you as well.

Thanks for this admonishing post to remind the new breed of posters who are habituated to getting spoon feed advice thru personal messaging and email.
This is not a "one to one" boutique immigration law firm where emails and PMs must be answered by a lawyer with all briskness. We educate thru our own exp. and own reading.

Be warned such one to one advice with lay people can often end in a monumental catastrophe.

Its rather annoying to see posters email me for advice. They have labelled me as the poster boy for divorce, removal, and fraud. Open the inbox, there I see..Waiver help please, fraud help please, removal help please.

While I fully appreciate your concerns, LL, I wasn't admonishing anyone. This is something that has been posted in the past and we like to do it again from time to time.

It is natural for people to want to PM someone with knowledge or experience for direction. My reminder is just that a reminder; PM advice can be dangerous and the moderators, at least, will not respond with private answers to immigration questions.

Rete, dont get me wrong. No negative connotation intended. Admonishing meant more like giving a well deserved alert about the issue. :lol:

I join your request. I just received a PM on a specific case. I responded by suggesting that they re-post publicly.

Also, I received another PM recently which was clearly not meant for me -- it was along the lines of what happened with your visa application. I was born in Santa Monica, California which had been part of the United States for 99 years 4 months 9 days at the time. In other words, I am a United States Citizen.

In my opinion, many of the questions posed in these PMs should be posted publicly.
