Delaying IR-1 over 2 years
I've searched through the forum and I'm pretty sure of the answer, but just for clarity I'm asking here.
About 2 years ago my USC husband and I planned to move to the USA. We filed the I 130 and it was approved in April 2016. Then stuff happened (family illness, bereavements and so on) which meant we were unable to continue.
In April 2017 I received a letter (which I have since mislaid) which said something along the lines of, if I don't take further steps within 12 months they will assume I have abandoned my application.
Fast forward to September 2017 and my USC husband is offered a job in the US starting January 2018, (which he has just started).
I have just completed my visa application (DS 261 I think) but nothing else yet. Am I right in thinking that I can continue to delay the procedure? I don't want to do my medical or interview until May this year because my children need to finish the year in school (as do I - I'm a teacher and May half term is the earliest time I can realistically travel to London.)
Ultimately I'm looking at an August move, at the earliest.

Re: Delaying IR-1 over 2 years
I slowed my application down as I needed to fulfil a 2 year home residency requirement from a previous J1 visa.
We sent the I-130 in November 2016 and it was approved during January 2017. I didn’t fill out the DS-260 until the April and waited again to book my medical.
I had my medical and interview towards the end of October of last year. My visa is eligible until the end of April based on my medical date and I will use it at the beginning of April to become a PR because by that time we will have been married two years.
So, I started the process in November 2016 and will complete it in April 2018.
As Rene said, you have time after each stage.

Thank you Rene and lemma5. I thought so, but didn't want to assume and get it wrong.
