Default D160 CONFUSION!!!

Hello!

I'm currently helping my fiancé with putting together an application for a K1 Visa.

Just wondering, at what stage do I file the D160? Really confused on this one!

Thanks

When the case has been forwarded to the embassy the beneficiary can complete this.

First of all, it's a DS-160.

Are you the beneficiary (the one who will receive the K-1 visa)?

The DS-160 is done online, and can't be done until the I-129F is approved and the case is in London, and the beneficiary knows the LND case number. The beneficiary does the DS-160, not the USC.

At what stage of the process are you now?

If you're helping your USC fiancé put together the I-129F petition, then say so. You're going to be dealing with US immigration for a very long time... it would be prudent of you to use the correct terminology - not only to help us answer your questions, but so you also can keep things straight.

You don't file the DS-160 until after the I-129F petition has been approved. That'll probably happen 4-5 months after the I-129F is submitted. Once the I-129F petition is approved, it is forwarded to the US Consular Service in London. Once that happens, you'll be invited to apply for the K-1 visa... and that is when you file the DS-160.

Just to add to all of the above - like Ian said; once you file the I-129F and it get's approved a few months later you will eventually (after your petition has been forwarded onto the NVC and been assigned a case number and forwarded onto the Embassy) be sent some instructions in the mail on what to do next. The instructions are basically: Gather all required documents, attend a medical and fill out the DS-160 and once you have done that you will file your Notice of Readiness which is again, online.
