AOS from L1-A to K1 or K3 while in the UK?
I am in the US on a long-term work assignment, which ends at the end of this week resulting in my return to the UK. However, my L1-A will remain valid for an additional 6 months before I am classed as out of status.
My question is this... is it possible to file for an AOS from my L1-A to a K1 or K3 visa from the UK? I assume the timescales are more favourable for an AOS compared to an application for a K1 from scratch? Regardless, what would be the ball-park timelines once the appropriate paperwork has been filed? My USC girlfriend resides in NYC.
Thanks.

AOS refers to "Adjustment of Status", which is the process of becoming a permanent resident in the USA.
You might want to consult with an immigration attorney to see if you can possibly remain in the USA and AOS here. I don't know the parameters of the L1-A to know if that's allowed or not...so you need to ask someone who knows for sure.
Best Wishes,
Rene

Sigh. You have the terminlolgy quite wrong -- in such a way that it might be a good idea to have a consulation with an immigraition lawyer.

If you want to remain in the US, once married, you may apply for the
green card from here - that process is called AOS (Adjustement of
Status). You may then travel using an Advance Parole.
If you would rather remain with a non-immigrant status, once married
you may apply for a K3 visa and pick it up in London.
Finally, if you are not sure that you want to marry your girlfriend,
you may apply for a K1. You would leave just before falling out of
status, and can then come back and have 90 days to marry her (or leave
the US). Besides stretching the timeline a little bit, I really don't
see why you would go with the K1 process.
