Who visits who?
When you go back to the old country are you the one that makes arrangements to visit rellies or do they invite you?
I'm staying at my mum's and I've heard nothing from my niece or SIL - as usual. No messages saying did I have a good journey, my brother visited the first evening. Usually I walk round and see them but this visit I haven't. I'm just pissed off. Am I supposed to be asking when I can visit?

Haven’t been back so far (7 years). Put off by the idea that I might have to trail round family. Make the most of it. There are lots of places i’d revisit, and more i’ve never seen. Where are you? You could visit some for me

We went back for a month, my rellies all dead now but wife’s are enthusiastic, as long as we drive to see them. Unfortunately I didn’t get a rental car so we only went see one in sons car.
Funny how everyone expects us to travel when everyone we know have cars. So we just said ***** em

Probably better if you ring around and set up the visiting schedule. You're the one with a time limit and a number of potentially clashing visits to make. It's always nice if relatives take the initiative to invite, but it really does depend on the individuals and their schedules.

Re: Who visits who?
Ill have to generally ask.
Nobody in my family has really ever asked me to visit.
If I plan to go back home to California, I will let my parents know and if they are around Ill visit if not then I will do other things.

'we're from Ajax..you've probably never heard of it unless you follow Dutch soccer. There is nothing to do there and we prefer Hamilton.'

How far did you travel in the UK w/o a rental car? To me that is one of the perks of a visit there actually driving where a car can be fun to drive rather than the dead straight rural roads here or the mind numbing cultural cul-de-sacs of suburbia.

We usually end up running around like lunatics trying to fit everyone in. When we go back for my nieces wedding in the summer, we will see people at the wedding in France, no one else will be told we are in the UK for 6 days after, so we can do what we want to do.

Re: Who visits who?
We used to have to go and see people.
One trip, we decided it would be a good idea to rent at cottage near the sea, somewhere close to Lancashire / North Wales. That would give our child an idea of English beaches, and relatives and friends could easily visit us for a day trip.
The suggestion went down like a lead balloon ................ basically it was, you can drive to see us, and you can struggle to keep the child happy while you do it. We certainly won't drive to you.
Our best trip back ever was in 1995 ........... I suddenly had to have quite a major operation just about the time we would have been contacting people, but didn't know whether we would even be able to go. We told just 3 people ......... ones we really wanted to see and stay with.
We did get to travel, 3 weeks after the operation, me carrying a large amount of pain medication, etc. We rented a car, and did exactly what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it. We stayed with 3 people, but mainly in hotels and pubs otherwise.
It was great!

Re: Who visits who?
As someone who emigrated quite young whenever I go home I just see my immediate family members, Grandmother ,Aunts and Uncles .Everyone else if I see you while I'm around town that's great otherwise it's too much work trying to see people who aren't really bothered if you're alive or not.
Just see the people most important to you .Don't stress the rest.

Re: Who visits who?
I usually tell people when I am visiting and ask when they are free. My brother's wife and daughter never reply. My brother always calls round the day I arrive and previously I've walked round to visit them, but not this time. I'd probably never see them again if I weren't here to stay with Mum. That's fine I guess. I shall stop feeling guilty abou.t not visiting this time.
