People have been underestimating Trump and engaging in wishful thinking since he first said he would run for President, somehow which is a mystery to everyone in many respects, he carries on with his Twitter account and survives.

He says, indeed brags he doesn't read, but it does appear he has learnt much political public relations and branding from the Goebbels diary.

I would say we have been over estimating the capabilities of the Republicans. Trump's incompetence and unsuitability grows with every passing week.

Idea for a novel.
A political party recognises it has little chance of winning at the next election and allows an idiotic but popular buffoon to be nominated and voted in as its leader.

They have nothing to lose, save the election, which they'd have lost anyway and they would hope a future leader emerges later, when the political mood of the people inevitably swings against government.

Opposition lulled into false sense of security and that, together with outside interference, results in a shock victory for the buffoon.

I submitted this outline to my publishers some years ago and they said the idea had promise but the subsequent parts where the country's leader continually makes an ass of himself on the world stage, chopping and changing his 'team' as he falls out with each of them, being rude to other leaders, was just too unrealistic even for a pantomime.

I came across this prophetic article written in 1999 following the untimely death of David (Screaming Lord) Sutch.https://www.newstatesman.com/node/150018.
In it, the author mentions one Donald Trump (then 53) as a potential in the US political stakes.

It's worth aread if only to identify who not to vote for in the future.

Quote "Sutch would have loved it: the raving loonies are finally a serious force, not in the UK but across the Atlantic."

Ex-Trump adviser sold $31m in shares days before president announced steel tariffs
Carl Icahn, a former special adviser to Donald Trump, sold $31.3m of shares in a company heavily dependent on steel imports last week, shortly before Trump’s announcement of new tariffs sent its shares plummeting.
I'm sure it was just a coincidence.
Icahn, who has a fortune of $16.9bn according to Forbes, sold 1m shares in Manitowoc, according to the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The value of the shares he sold has since dropped by around $6m.
I'm surprised he made the effort. $6m can't be more than pocket change to him.

An appropriate name though. He Can.

A weeks holiday at the 5 star Trump Ocean Club International in Panama City might be less than relaxing with fighting between two groups of security guards, one employed by Ithaca and another by Trump hotels.
According to an article in ThinkProgress the hotel has been used for years by drug cartels involved in money laundering.
