That's a rather expensive bottle of wine.
I agree that the bubbly you mention shouldn't be abused that way, but I recoil from the description of Kir Royale as tart fuel.

It was my mother-in-law's favourite apero.

Oh, hang on....

Fair enough but at least do it with something like Moet or Freixinet.

Kim Crawford Pinot Noir @ $22.79 A provisional 10/10

La Vieille Ferme Rosé @ $13.79......7+. I'm giving it the + because I had it with a Thai Red Curry and Rosés go very well.
Had the Kim Crawford Merlot tonight. I have generally got on better with a merlot for steak and this didn't let me down.

It's like discovering red wine all over again.

My 1.5L of Pelee Red is quite pleasing for $12. Unlike a wine box you have to chug through it though.

I ran into an old friend the other day, I could swear this used to come in a green bottle...
edit: tastes a bit dusty, could be the result of drinking my Okanagan rose prior... but I doubt it. Hmmmm.

Well so far I've had a Kim Crawford Pinot Noir that was lovely (Matua from the same region was good too). A KC Merlot which was also very good, I just have a preference for Merlot with steak and today I had KC Unoaked Chardonnay which was the best white I had since 2001 (Oxford Landing Chardonnay) in the Savoy.

I feel like I've wasted the last few years.

Rosé aside I shall most likely stick with Kim Crawford in future. It might be a bit gauche but I'm going to enjoy it.

Oh.

I'd best get it out of the bin. On second thoughts. Maybe a new 'un would be a better idea.

The KC Sauvignon Blanc is lovely, a perfect example of a NZ S Blanc, your typical "cat's pee on a gooseberry bush" thing.

I never heard of that before.

Well if that Kim Crawford wine is as good as the others, I think it's time for a new collective name.

KC and the Sunshine Band.

I checked out the prices of the wine of Bristol's list on the Newfoundland Liquor Corp's website. Depressingly, we seem to pay $2-3 more a bottle for the same thing. Booze is expensive here. What's particularly galling though is that I believe NB, NS, PEI & NL Liquor have shared purchasing and logistics agreements. So it ought to all cost the same. (Some years ago I interviewed for a Logistics Manager position for the NLC.) Oh for some actual competition in alcohol distribution!

Our typical price point for every day drinking reds is $15 or so. After a string of "meh" experiences recently, the Mrs has suggested we increase the budget to $20 a bottle and drink it less often. We're fans of South American reds for the price point & taste, particularly Cab Sauvs and Malbec. Does the panel have any suggestions?

Well, that's some comfort when comparing our prices to Ontario.

Be careful. We've upped our price point and we're drinking more.

Before my New Zealand discovery my most acceptable wine when I'd g one off Aussie stuff was a Chilean Pinot Noir from Cono sur (which sounds like a play on words ) so maybe their others are good.

Frontera, also Chilean, has been reasonable. I've had a couple of theirs.

I recall enjoying conosur back in blighty in the 90s.

I picked up a bottle of Emu cream Sherry (or apera ad they call it these days) as one of my mad purchases. And in this weather it's not so bad. At all.

So I'm now officially old!

I think I may have had some of that a few years ago to see how it compared to Harveys Bristol Cream.

Remember Emva?
