Time for another wine thread

Re: Time for another wine thread
Another thread showed a 12 yr single malt for about $125 here and $76 somewhere else.
Today I happened to come across Château Pétrus 2009 which retails for $5999.98. I wrote the real price rather than $6k just to show it wasn't a typo.
If you fancy a bottle of this, pop over to Ontario where you can pick it up for a bargain $3994.85
I wonder if I could get NB Liquor to order in at the LCBO price.
Just checked BC. Seems to be $3800 there.

Antano Crianza Rioja @ $14.79.........................7/10
Had it with T-Bone steak...and a leftover glass (used the vacuum thingy) with Roast Lamb next day. Good enough for both. Antaño with the squiggle thingy
Anciano Gran Riserva Tempranillo @ $14.79
Kim Crawford Pinot Noir @ $22.79 A provisional 10/10
McManis Petite Sirah @ $17.79
La Vieille Ferme Rosé @ $13.79......7+. I'm giving it the + because I had it with a Thai Red Curry and Rosés go very well.

Re: Time for another wine thread
Tried an alternative to the Kim Crawford Pinot Noir. Same region, same grape.
Matua for about $4 less.
A shade less impressive but still very good. I'd rank it ahead of my previous fave Rosemount Shiraz.

I haven't tried the rose but strongly suggest not drinking two bottles of the red on top of a couple of Prides and half a bottle of that Coppola cab.

MrBEVS would suggest similar after last Friday evening. No gym session for him on Saturday & eyes like cracked golfballs.

Re: Time for another wine thread
Just realised I spent $170 on wine since I began the thread.
Fortunately I still have most of it left.

Latest from the original list....
I'm thinking that just as I used to stick with Aussie whites and reds I'll now be sticking with New Zealand for reds at least.

I got a bottle of Taylor's LBV for New Years Eve, and honestly it wasn't as exquisite as I recall. Maybe I should have got the Grahams?

How well aged is it? We have a reasonable Dow's LBV on the go that's probably really a bit young to be at its best yet. A good glug of it did go very nicely in the cranberry sauce, though. Even an LBV port can do well to stay in the bottle for a few years before drinking. Buy another one now and keep it for next New Year...

Re: Time for another wine thread
Referring upthread to the Xmas crate I bought for the FIL (but in fact kept most of myself) we opened a bottle of the 2010 Chateau Petit Vedrines Sauternes tonight and had a glass or two to accompany some pate de fois gras.
It was in fact near perfect, however the tasting notes say....
Deep coloured with a nose full of honeyed botrytis. Rich yet impeccably balanced, the finish lingers on the palate.
Well yes, but WTF is botrytis?

Re: Time for another wine thread
Here is a wine horror story.
I learned just before Xmas that my MIL was going to crack out a bottle of champagne she'd had for ages at New Year and tart it up with some cassis.
Nice going darling. A 1979 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame, turned into tart fuel. I'm glad I wasn't there to witness the crime.
That's a rather expensive bottle of wine.
