Time for another wine thread

Re: Time for another wine thread
Well said, I've had some great home made wine. I haven't had kit wine in a long time but I believe you that they're better now. As the business grew it was certain to improve.
I was thinking of having curry wings tonight and dug up this pairing guide. Bristol there are recommendations for some chilled reds near the bottom.
clicky The link is imperfect, but just touch on the curry button on that page.

Re: Time for another wine thread
Just back from the offie.
Trying:
Antano Crianza Rioja @ $14.79
Anciano Gran Riserva Tempranillo @ $14.79
Kim Crawford Pinot Noir @ $22.79
McManis Petite Sirah @ $17.79
La Vieille Ferme Rosé @ $13.79
I'm happy to say most are corks. I know there's supposed to be no difference with a screwtop but I just prefer a cork even if it's not a real one.

I should be delighted to take you up on that offer, I'll see what need for an urgent site visit can be contrived.

Today a Cotes du Rhone, Plan de Dieu. Nice but, in the circumstances (rode, installed fence, cooked complicated meals for the week, chugged a few Pride's, sat down for dinner) an undistinguished but economical wine was ideal. I shall finish it with two alps of the "beat a man to death" sized Toblerone.

Your journey seems the opposite to what I was taught. You start with Blue Nun, travel through the other easily drinkable off dry wines from norther Europe before discovering the joys of French wines. As your pallet improves you appreciate the better wines of Europe and the world.
In the end, when you really know how to appreciate fine wine, you discover Sauternes which are some of the most intense, complex and expensive wines ever made.

Tonight I will be enjoying Peller Estates Shiraz out of a four liter box because a) it is cheap and b) it still gets me p*ss*d.

I reckon it was around 1971, so age 14. My parents had just discovered short breaks in Majorca and they went through a bit of a Spanish phase. From a quick bit of googling, it may have been "Spanish Sauternes" so maybe with that out of the way it was a case of 'starting' with Blue Nun/Black Tower.

Hmmm...I'm wondering now if the 'Sauternes' we had was the real thing.
