Aperol. A friend drinks this as a spritzer so I've bought a bottle but not tried it yet. Pretty colour.

Re: Time for another wine thread
So...since they've been allowed to sell wine in the supermarkets here, it has seemed to me that it's not the same selection as available in the liquor stores.
This may not be a good sign, although there is a perfectly decent Rosé available. But it's hard to go wrong with Rosé.
Anyway, I saw something called Gray Fox the other day. Californian. Medium to full bodied. Berry fruits. It was $10 or so and I thought if it's awful I can at least use it for cooking.
Since I've been drinking the Kim Crawford stuff and liking it so much, there's never any undrunk wine left to use. (there's really no such word as undrunk? There should be)
I can report that Gray Fox Cabernet Sauvignon is actually quite good. Hopefully the Chardonnay will be decent too and that white can average out at a better price overall.
Although NB Liquor stores don't sell it, those of Quebec, BC and Ontario do.
Must get around to trying that Terra Boa too.

I tried the Cabernet Sauvignon just last week. It was the cheapest wine I could find in the shop at less than $9 after tax. It was ok as table wine.

I discovered that the artist series wines have been dropped by Trius. Their Gamy Noir was a delicious light bodied red, ideal for light chilling and sipping on the deck.
Anyone suggest any alternate sources, at not much over $10 a bottle?

And a word about drinking the cooking sherry, I keep Emu 999 on hand.

The Mrs recently won a bottle of "Menage a trois Silk" in a raffle. Despite the stupid name it's a rather drinkable californian red blend. So much so that she drank most of it rather than I! Its $22 or so here which means cheaper everywhere else. ($18 at the LCBO for example).

Brights Pale isn't that bad...
On a better note I had an excellent gamay-vidal-pinot, intended for chilling, much in the style of a Portuguese Vinho Verde, if a little more mouth filling. Sandbanks winery as I recall.
Pizzawheel stamp of recommendation. As is the brights...

Naked Grape Sangria, on sale and I like it. It's more polished than the rocket-fuel sangria I've been making, but I could use this in the same recipe. It's basically just a fruity sweet 11% reddo, passed the swig test handily.

On my numerous hols in Greece I used to make my own concoction that was very like Sangria.
50/50 of a sweetish red and 7Up or Sprite. Pieces of apple, pears, slices of orange...any fruit, really.
Allow it to go flat, which means making the next one so it can go flat while you drink the earlier one.

Angostura bitters mashed into brown sugar, fruit, ice, a few oz rum, half a bottle of red wine, couple of cups of orange juice, a little club soda.... It can leave a mark. I got on it because I wanted to find a way to use white rum I got free from work. I had an experience with Bacardi white in Borden long ago and haven't been a fan since, and this works.

I found a couple of bottles labeled Chilean Malbec, no vintner specified... and I think my boss was gifted them from a home wine maker and passed them on to me, though I confess I don't remember for sure. It, (#1 anyway), isn't bad. It's probably kit wine but what do I know?, I've never been big on malbecs anyway but for free I give it 7 out of 10. Pairs well with a Cheese Whiz and dill pickle sandwich.

Re: Time for another wine thread
For those folk who live in go-ahead, forward thinking provinces like Quebec and New Brunswick where you can buy wine at the supermarket, things are even better 2 or 3 years in.
More stores involved now but, as well, the supermarkets are now offering some of the same labels as the liquor store whereas originally it was just local stuff or wines from other countries not sold in the liquor stores.
Carry on like this and we'll have full choice in a couple of years.
