Septics shooting each other again.

Re: Septics shooting each other again.
I agree there shouldn't be a need, but any one family, or school, can have absolutely zero impact on whether there is or is not any need for this product, with the possible exception of employing police/security to deter would-be intruders. ..... My daughter's school has a "head of security" who is a recently retired police captain; I assume he has access to a gun if the need ever arises.

Of course there shouldn't be any need, and it's sad that the children should have to be drilled with paranoia, but given the frequency of mass shootings and the unwillingness of U.S. authorities to tackle the situation, it seems a fairly rational response to me. A bit like issuing hard hats in an earthquake zone.

Natural disasters are quite different to a problem created by man and where the lack of following action means that rather dealing with the root cause of it we terrify small children into believing that their world is not safe. To me that this is acceptable and gun control on the same level as other countries isn't - is mind boggingly bonkers

The only real way for gun control to work is to make a constitutional amendment, however that will be near impossible at this point in time, it's a difficult process and the president can't do nor can congress do it on their own, 38 of the 50 states also have to agree which is why it's more or less not done, everyone knows reaching that 38 state requirement isn't possible at this point in time.
The US constitution is incredibly hard to change, and legislation alone will not control guns at any meaningful level.
States have a lot of rights, and the feds can't just trample on those rights, there are limits to what the federal government can do when it comes to state rights.

Some states take it serious and have quite strict gun laws, California has the strictest gun laws in the country for the most part. Not sure what else they can actually do at the state level.

I don't think the Constitution, nor the laws in general, are key to the gun problem now. Some locations, California, DC, NYC, already have gun laws comparable to those in Canada but, since the US is awash with ordnance and otherwise law abiding citizens fetishize their "right to bear arms" the genie is well out of the bottle. Some sort of Chris Rock bullet tax might really be the way forward.

In their eagerness to disprove Trump's statement the Guardian article (with comments) actually seems to reveal that Trump is probably correct...
