Default Roadside Assistance Recomendations

So obviously looking at CAA, as based in Ontario but the basic package is a little lame with the towing distance of 10km!

Any other recommendations or just upgrade to the CAA Plus package for peace of mind.

So buy the premium package and get 350? Km. So when you get stranded in the middle of the Rockies, you should get the car to some dealership, albeit Kamloops, Calgary or Vancouver. In Ontario, I couldn't tell you how far you would have to drive before you couldn't get to a mainstream dealership.....perhaps 10 km would be enough?

I use this. Serves me when I am flying, on the ground or on the road. Cell service is unnecessary as it is satellite. Roadside assistance is an extra $35US a year.

Give it to the kids when they travel long distance, wife takes it skiing. Any emergency, it is there. Roadside has 5 tows a year, up to 50 miles.

I get CAA Plus but hardly ever have to use it. If I need it it's there, and the joke is worth a bit.
It's the only German organisation I belong to; The Otto Club.

Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance - $99 a year - Gold Coverage - covers the car so anyone can drive it versus CAA which covers the driver.

Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance
CAA covers the driver in any car, just to expand a little.

It all depends on your needs. We have one car - two drivers - so it is the best package for us and considerably less than CAA.

You get discounts with CAA. Heard on the radio a couple of days ago you can get 10% off at Montanas... Bargain!

And sometimes the discounts are not really discounts that save one money really.

Hotels for example, most will discount the rack rate for CAA members, but most hotels will also typically have an online promotional rate of some sort or on Expedia or priceline that is cheaper then the CAA rate.

CAA used to give points for Husky purchases, but no more, and they used to sell Provincial Park passes and give $5 off next year's membership for it, but no more. I'll have to check and see if they have anything I can use.
