Rip Off Southern Shandy Drinkers.
Is there a North/South divide in the UK or is it a myth? Sure we expect things to be a little more expensive in the capital city but cor blimey guv this is taking the piss.
Menu sign in Kathy Cafe on Eastenders
Coffee and a sausage or bacon bap - costing an eye-watering £6.
EastEnders viewers left gobsmacked by worrying detail in Kathy's cafe - Mirror Online
Yet over at Roy's Rolls On Coronation St you can get a regular full English breakfast including tea or coffee for 3.45 or large full English for 4.45

It's more of a state of mind. Plus people in the south have had a history of full employment, decent education, good health and they don't smell because they shower everyday instead of once a week sharing the bath water with all nine family members, their whippet and the neighborhood pit pony.

Roys rolls is a fictional cafe, therefore he does not need to sell his food to make a profit he can quite easily feed the cast at cost.
Obviously the EastEnders cafe is real hence the higher prices.

Being from the Midlands this is always a funny question. Southerners think we a Northern, Northerners dont tend to think we are Southern but say that we are not Northern. I would think that it depends where in the Midlands you are from. People from Staffs, Notts Derbs would tend to pick North but if you are from Warwickshire, Hereford & Worcscestershire you probably dont identify as Northern.
The real difference is that the North does better Fish and Chips, Pies and Beer

Back in the 70's we used to get great enjoyment travelling up North in our expensive London Clobber getting into Northern Football grounds and waving fistfuls of money at the opposition supporters. Used to go down real well at Liverpool that one.

IIRC a shot of whisky/Gin/Rum was about 1/3d
A 12 bottle case of lemonade was 6shillings but we got 3/6d back on the empties from the brewer!
And yes, we did have sawdust on the floor of the bar!!!

I might not be as old as some on here (35) but I remember prices being around 1.50 - 1.80 depending on what you were drinking when I started going the pub. Its roughly doubled in 20 years from what I remember from last visit home.
Student nights on Tuesday was always great - quid a drink
I worked in a Pub in Bournemouth when I was a student. I asked the landlord why the beer was more expensive. He said simple..I could buy a pub up North for what it would cost to lease one for a year in the SE. That in reality is probably the biggest North South divide. Or more SE vs the rest.

You must have gone to one of those fancy southern wine bars, all dressed up in a shiny suit like Bryan Ferry, probably with a skinny tie and a diamante tie-pin, I expect. My first pint cost about 75p, and we're about the same age.

I thought you were rather older than that. I can recall drinking Courage Best at the Polytechnic SU in Plymouth for 75p a pint. That was 87-90. You are either a naffing youngster or didn't start drinking until you were older. Or as Jings says drank in poncy places.
Of course in 2017 I can still drink cheaper in hipster Shoreditch than I can in St John's NL!
