So the "leader "of the somali community in MN was interviewed this morning on the CBC 6am report saying that Canada has seen nothing yet regards asylum seekers crossing the border. He says that the Somali community are living in fear in Trumps America and claims for asylum in the USA are being denied so that when the weather gets better many many Somalis will be trying to cross the border into Canada to claim asylum . You cant make this stuff up, I recon its about time the Canadian border was made more secure.

Considering it stretches across literally thousands of land miles, good luck with that.

why not ? Canada is not a third world country I am sure that we can run border patrols ,drones 24/7 ,its well known that in my area(border) that the US CBP run patrols 24/7 on rural roads on the US side( I have seen the roving patrols at night when getting close to cross back into Canada and not forgetting the high level drones that patrol the border. Why the US CBP don't apprehend the illegal asylum seekers is any ones guess ,

Precisely. The US already heavily patrols the border with Mexico and it still isn't enough and they're not dealing with 2 first world countries bordering one another or 8-feet of snow and extreme sub-zero temperatures down there.

In truth, aside from 'building a wall' there is very little that could really be done to secure the US/Canada border further, especially during the winter months.

I blame the First Nations.

They should have taken a much harder position on the Pilgrim Fathers, Brits, French, Chinese, Ukrainians etc that brought this continent to its knees.

As for the despicable immigrants like Ahmed Hussen, Michaelle Jean and Adrienne Clarkson, they got what they deserved.

It might be a very different Canada had they done so.

Well, they could have preserved their society and culture.

You're missing the sarcasm emoticon.
I asked my late friend why the Caribe Indians didn't just kill Columbus and every other intruder that sailed over on a boat and he said it just wasn't part of their culture, the Creator made the world for all men to walk upon.

How about they build the wall down south and then project an image of it spanning the northern border? That could work as long as nobody tries to touch it.

Who would deny those poor souls a life here in Canada?

Plenty of room, if they do a better job than a Canadian in their chosen profession, why not? All they need to do is get a job in a country that is having its worst recession in living memory, with property prices in Toronto and Vancouver at all time highs in terms of affordability....

I suspect the guys with no fingers will feel at home with all those injuries, will feel just like Rwanda. Bit cruel I know, but wouldn't it be ironic if they were from Rwanda.

But seriously, they are not going to take any jobs from people on this site, unless you work in unskilled very low paid occupations, in which case how did you get here? A few government handouts and they will be spent in the local economy. Relax, if it gets worse, the government will legislate to try and stop it, won't they?

Asylum-seekers flee U.S. border patrol by scrambling over snowbank into Quebec - Montreal - CBC News

Even with police/border patrol present, people are not deterred. Guess people can cross more safely during the day.

A few choices for those that make it to the border that get past the US patrols

1. Shoot them before they cross into Canada to make sure that they fall dead on the US side

2. If they make it into Canada through the snow, cold, frozen, with frost bitten fingers & toes, then take them into Canada, locals providing warm blankets, food & shelter.

Process them to a level so they get a PR card & health card within 30 days, welfare, provide English or French lessons sufficient for them to be gainfully employed so they can then sponsor family from back home.

3. Deport them back to far off shores. Mind you that could take up to 10 years

4. For Somalians allow them to make their claim. Their case is heard by a member of the Immigration & Refugee Board. If successful they get refugee status and can then apply for PR status and then sponsor family members abroad.
If unsuccessful and provided that the claimant has not been found inadmissible for criminality, international or human rights violations, organized crime or a security risk they will be allowed to remain in Canada and apply for a work permit and remain as there has been an Administrative Deferral Of Removal to certain parts of Somalia since December 2011.

This is how the system currently works for Somalians.
