Does it? The first thought is of the advantages in knowing which conditions you are genetically predisposed to get but after that there's the worry of living with that knowledge. Plus there's the effect on life insurance policies, an increase in cost or even ineligibility.

Yeah, amongst other things, they can tell you which chemotherapy drugs are likely to work best if you get cancer, based on the specific combinations of genes they find. So it seems like the kind of thing the NHS should be doing as a precautionary measure to avoid wasting time with treatments that aren't going to work.
I once heard Craig Venter in an interview explain that it wasn't until he had his genome sequenced that he realised he needed to start taking statins.
