The cat was sitting on the chair next to mine. I reached out to stroke it and quickly realised he wasn't facing the direction I thought.

Good job I didn't offer him a finger to sniff.

That's about right, Apart from the Dragons. Solihull, Birmingham, Leicester and the rest are clearly in the Midlands. Whatever they are.

But really, who cares? Isn't it supposed to be a country rather than waring regions?

Where else in the world we have such a stupid debate?

And why?
If there is only a 'north' and a 'south' and no Midlands then I think most people would consider Manchester to be in the north. They drink pints of mild, whippets are rampant, Andy Capp would feel at home, the Royle family and Shameless were based there.

Where else would we have such a stupid debate?. New Yorkers define where New York ends and dragons begin. Torontonians define the edge of the civilized word as either Bloor, Eglinton, etc and look down on the 905 world, Parisians define the area outside the Peripherique as being a different world, Montrealers look down on those outside the 514 and deride the 450 inhabitants.

Its all generally in good fun in limited quantities

I think the expected answer was:

Crack that whip..
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late...

(Devo song!)

Oh dear, went right over my head. Maybe if it was a Fall "Hit the North" reference I'd have got it, uh. I forget that Oink is older than me.

It's my Dad's favourite song.

We got Knees Up Muvver Brown and some song involving a sister Belinda who pissed out the winda. Uncle Frank would belt out South of the Border which, as a child, I assumed he had made up as it lacked the lyrical finesse and rousing chorus of the Belinda song.

No songs for us, just:
Are we there yet?
The sea, the sea, I see the sea.
And on long narrow country roads not wide enough for two cars...around the corner, we meet a car.

And I spy with my little eye....
