For five years I worked at a consulting firm in the GTA founded by a Dutch engineer who had worked on the St Lawrence seaway project when he came to Canada. We had a couple of projects in Ajax which he always pronounced the Dutch football team way. Few of the non-dutch people in the office knew what he was talking about when he mentioned the town unless they were footie fans.

Moncton on the Lake = Ajax..good analogy. I've been to both and they are close in ambience although Moncton, NB doesn't have a large city close by. Is there a tidal BORE in Ajax.

This table depresses the hell out of me. Glad I left the GTA 23 years ago. To pay that amount of money to commute for that long is a waste of one's time and money in my opinion. However, I imagine that the number of people commuting from Clarington to downtown Toronto is very low. The chart doesn't also include the actual costs to commute (cost of gas, increased insurance, repairs, depreciation etc or transit passes).

We have a brewery or two and the Costco sells beer. I'll stick with Gatineau.

Those GTA house prices are eye-watering. There are currently only five houses on the market in Gatineau for over a million. They are all huge and on river banks. Four of them are on the same street.
