Northern Gateway + Enbridge
I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed yet, especially since we're all supposedly here for the children.

Re: Northern Gateway + Enbridge
Those revenues from the oil pipeline and sales of that exported oil will bring in much needed revenue which will be spent on 1st class schools and a world class education for those children so its a WIN WIN IMHO.

Well it would appear that the experts (those that, ordinarily, the government is supposed to listen to) have said that the benefits of it, outweigh the negatives.
Providing the recommended conditions can be met, what's the issue?

I don't actually care - it's not my country being messed up.
Although, I reckon the recent rejection of the mine at fish lake was a political move to give credibility to the organisation that decides on the environmental impact. That way they can pretend they didn't just rubber stamp the pipeline even though that's what they did.

Pipeline seems less risk then the current by rail method which seems to be causing more issues then most would like.
Until we find a replacement for oil, we gotta have it, and if Canada has it, and others want it, may as well sell it to them, why sit on it and get nothing from it?
BC clears vast swaths of forest of trees and nobody seems to mind.

It's all very well having the third largest reserves of oil/gas in the world but if you can't sell it who cares. Canada is a closed market and is falling behind rapidly on the LNG sector.

I don't know. Given all the other countries with significant oil reserves are shitty, not having to rely on them has a certain value in and of itself.

Where are they going to refine this synthetic crude and become self sufficient. Costs in Canada are huge and its affecting the market right now.

There is a major concern around safety, Enbridge's rep with spills and their reaction to them, and also how BC would be taking a majority of the risk but receiving little in return.
If there was a spill, who would be picking up the bill?
