New TOP GEAR

Re: New TOP GEAR
At least Clarkson doesn't have motion sickness in cars!

Re: New TOP GEAR
Fifth Gear did have that posh bird with the double - barrelled name, and that didn't work. So not sure where the female presenter would come from, unless Kat Deeley is getting even more bored.

Re: New TOP GEAR
I'm looking forward to it. I hope they'll make a good pairing. Sod all else on the telly that's any good so the bar isn't very high at the moment.

Re: New TOP GEAR
New Top Gear was different though, with a stable presenter line-up for 14 years and 22 seasons.

Re: New TOP GEAR
Vickie Butler Henderson, she was on Top Gear too, back in the '90's. ..... But there were many women who were presenters on Top Gear over the years - Anglea Rippon, Marian Foster, Kate Humble, Julia Bradbury, and others; none lasted though, but the same could be said about most of the men too - only a few lasted beyond a couple of years.

Re: New TOP GEAR
What's not to like about 6'5", curly-haired, ornery Yorkshiremen?
At the moment, TG back episodes is the only television that I watch! And has been since I ran out of X-Files episodes about a year ago. And I watched the first three series of Gold Rush, and the next couple via YouTube. I used to watch some Mythbusters but not for a number of years. We don't have cable TV, nor an antenna, and therefore we watch no TV news, nor any sports.
It is a number of years back since I watched any TV shows other than TG, X-Files, and Gold Rush, at least 3-4 years, and maybe 6-8. I tried "Fringe" when I ran out of X-Files, but I didn't find it compeling viewing. I have a box set of Blackadder DVDs from Christmas that I haven't started watching yet.

I quite like her presenting style (well, I suppose I should acknowledge that I always thought she was rather wonderful altogether...) - she was OK on "old" Top Gear and has held her own on Fifth Gear, but both of those are rather tired magazine-show formats that would have challenged any presenter. On Fifth Gear the combination of her, Tiff and Jason Plato gives a pretty strong bias towards track driving, not always to the advantage of the format
One of the strengths of the Clarkson/May/Hammond triumvirate is the interplay between the boffin (May) the boy racer (Hammond) and their mutual antagonist, Clarkson the "common man." I'm not sure the Evans/Joey combo will work in the same way. Does this mean the rumours surrounding Chris Harris and/or Sabine Schmitz have been dismissed?

Re: New TOP GEAR
The whole thing is a frickin' mess and the show hasn't even been aired yet! I'll be shocked if there is a second season, and at the moment I believe it is only 50:50 as to whether there'll be a first. The Beeb has managed to choke one of its few golden geese. Good job!

Re: New TOP GEAR
Was watching TV just now in UK and saw an advert for Amazon TV, by Clarkson, and then this:
Guess who's back - Clarkson, Hammond, May sign Amazon Prime deal. But no Stig! - Tech Digest
Hmmm
