Default Moving next week.

Just down the parking lot of the apartment building we already live in. Going from Bldg 1 to Bldg 4, and down to a first floor corner apartment.

Basically the same layout we have now but a bit smaller, total 60sq feet so nothing huge.

The old guy who was living there had is stuff moved out today, and we hope to get keys by Friday. Landlord is letting us move in early without paying rent for the new place.

Another tenant who was in market rate, is on the BC housing wait list, so he is moving into our apartment, and we are doing the opposite, leaving BC Housing for market units.

Kind of scared since rent goes from 570 in the BC Housing unit, to 870 for the new unit, but we can manage.

Moving is always scary even when just going down 2 buildings......

Have I got this correct: you are paying $300 a month more for 60 sq ft less?

That's an expensive pet. Why not just get a hamster or guinea pig?

I think it's because he is moving from a council owned property to one that is on the open market.
If it is just for a pet it would have to be a pet that made me breakfast in bed and ironed my clothes to warrant paying that price difference.

good luck with the move.
I'm not a fan of moving house either.
We were so lazy here in Toronto that we ended up buying the place we rented because we couldn't be arsed to move

No pets of any kind permitted where we are currently.

Our time in BC housing was coming to an end later this year, we just upped it a few months. With my new job it pushes our income over the threshold for BC Housing, so we would be moving either way, and this apartment where we are moving to, is still the cheapest building in town, everything else in this market would be 1,000 or more a month.

I'd prefer to stay where we are, but rules are rules and aside from quitting my job, no way to stay in BC Housing unit.

Yes current apartment is rent geared to income, so the rent is based on your income.

New apartment is cheaper then market rates, but is not geared towards your income.

Housing income limit for our current apartment is 33,000 a year, and we are above that by about 2,000.

Do I consider it affordable? No. Would we have moved just for a pet into this new apartment? No.

But rules are rules, and we are not considered low income anymore.

I make 24,000 a year now, and my GF makes around 12-13k between work and disability payments.

Thanks all.

I do hate renting though. Such a pain, always someone wanting to see something and claiming they notified you when you never received notice and it become a huge issue.

Renting is horrible way to live.

Have you always dealt with landlords/agencies of multiple properties/large buildings?

Just wonder if you've experienced anything different with a 'small' landlord.
