Bing Crosby's daughter Denise was a regular. I don't recall her singing.

Watched "6 Days" on Netflix at the weekend. Based on the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980. A bit dull really. Didn't hold the my attention at all.

Was it because they kept interrupting it for news of the snooker?

But Picard was good.
I think it's the writing that let's it down. This one is done by Simon Peg and you can tell. I like him, but he's a comedy writer and not right for this in my opinion. I'd be interested to know what you think when you see it so post your opinion when you do please.

I have really enjoyed Star Trek discovery. I did enjoy TNG at the time but it was very cheesy and I struggle to watch it back now. DS9 and Voyager have aged much better I think (in story). Discovery is great though, very gritty.

Will do (although I suspect it will be a while before I do catch it).

By gritty, do you mean gory? Just into episode 3 where there suddenly some gore, which is not really my thing...does it continue?

Also, why is that vulcan woman called 'Michael'?

Series creator Bryan Fuller deliberately gave Martin-Green's character a traditionally male name, which he had done with the female leads (George, Jaye and Chuck) in three of his previous series. Martin-Green decided that the character was named after her father.

Ah, ok. It's an unnecessary confusion IMO. She should have a female name (and be dressed in pink FFS).

Suburbicon.
Very like Blood Simple, this, also by the Coen brothers.

I really enjoyed it and felt the two storylines going on worked well with each other. Some quite tense moments in a very old fashioned way.

By gritty I mean the story lines have more substance and less idealism than the previous series. With the war and people dying, heavy losses and the like. It makes me feel more engaged.

The use of a male name for Michael is irritating!

They swore in an episode and that was too much for me. I know that is ridiculous as I feel ridiculous but for me there's no swearing in star trek!

Thanks Shaky. I can continue watching! I think I caught a swear in one of the episodes and thought, WTF! The quality of the graphics is really high, almost seems like a film.

Also re-watching the original series (as my kid has decided Star Trek without Spock is not Star Trek). It's quite cool to see certain bits of tech that did and did not make it. For example, there's an electronic clipboard which is a bit like a bulky iPad! Also, funny how in the 24th century they've cracked light speed, but still need to push a button every time they speak on an intercom. Nevertheless, it's all good. Amazing that it is now 50 years old!

Hmmm...I wonder.

It might be deliberate. They speak to the ship's computer don't they. When they get into the elevator they tell it where they want to go without pushing buttons.

So they could probably operate the intercoms without a button - voice activation presumably. But then when crew walk along the corridors their conversations would be picked up and broadcast somewhere.

Think of the embarrassment.

If they're wearing a jumper their days are numbered anyway, so probably doesn't matter.
